For me, the holidays are all about finding ways to make ordinary food extraordinary! There are many reasons to have quick and easy, yet elegant, recipes on hand for this time of year. This is one of those recipes.
What makes this simple broccoli with cheese sauce so special?
- First, the broccoli is roasted in the oven! Flavors are enhanced by simply roasting vegetables in the oven, as opposed to boiling or steaming. Broccoli is no exception.
- Second, the roasted broccoli is topped with a garlicky cheese sauce. The easy, 2-ingredient garlicky cheese sauce is made possible with new Finlandia™ Black Garlic Gourmet Cheese.
I was delighted to hear Finlandia™ now offers a selection of creamy gourmet cheeses in the cheese section of my grocery store. If you remember, I shared a fabulous recipe for Cinnamon Walnut Shortbread Cookies made with Finlandia™ Premium Imported Butter earlier this month. I fell in love with Finlandia™ butter, so I knew Finlandia™ creamy gourmet cheese would be awesome. And I was right!
Like Finlandia™ Premium Imported Butter, Finlandia™ Creamy Gourmet Cheese is made with the purest milk from Finnish family-owned farms. It has no added hormones nor artificial ingredients. All Finlandia™ cheeses are made to uncompromising standards and they are made with only the purest ingredients. Finlandia ™ has been in this business for over 100 years and all that experience gives their products that unmistakable legendary taste! Finlandia™ Creamy Gourmet Cheeses are available in 5 varieties: Black garlic; Garden Dill; Classic; Vanilla Bean and Sweet Lemon.
I used Finlandia™ Black Garlic Creamy Gourmet Cheese in this recipe. (I think the Sweet Lemon variety would be delicious too!) It's creamy, flavorful, and honestly, a cheese spread that can stand on it's own on a cheese platter or as a snack. But, I wanted to take this product one step further and incorporate it into a side dish recipe that was easy to prepare, yet elegant enough for special occasions.

Start preparation by arranging fresh broccoli florets on a parchment lined baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and salt and pepper, then roast in oven until tender. While the broccoli is in the oven, make the garlic cheese sauce by combining Finlandia ™ Black Garlic Creamy Gourmet Cheese with milk or half-and-half in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally, as the cheese melts into a sauce.
Arrange roasted broccoli in serving dish and pour the garlic cheese sauce on top. Garnish with a few sliced almonds and you are done! That's it!
So easy! So pretty! So tasty!
